A police officer attached to the VIPP Ntoroko customs bond shot and killed a businessman mistaking him for a robber on Wednesday 1st June.

Addressing the media at police headquarters in Nagutu Kampala, police spokesperson Fred Enanga narrated that on the fateful night at 01:00am at Ntoroko URA Customs Bond located at Tranzami Cell, Ntoroko Central Ward in Kanara Town Council, Ntoroko District, a business man Babiiha John alias Motmot was shot dead by No. 46294 PC Chomoi Musubo Sadik.

According to Enanga; “The businessman came driving a motor vehicle Reg. No. UAG 803E Toyota Corona and knocked a stationery truck Reg. No. UAK 702G while trying to park his vehicle at the customs area. The truck driver one SsempijA Latiff who was asleep woke up, made an alarm which attracted the attention of the police constable who had taken cover guarding the place.”

Enanga adds that; “The police constable out of an alarm which was raised suspected the victim to be a robber and shot bullets which killed him in his vehicle.”

Police later visited the scene, a postmortem was done and PC Chomoi Musubo is currently detained at Fort Portal Police Station and SMG rifle No. UG. POL. 5631007804 loaded with 25 rounds of ammunitions exhibited as inquiries continue.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the deceased was drunk and several empty bottles of beer including sachets of Chief Waragi were found in his vehicle.
