The opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party has raised concern over the continued shootings by military officers in different parts of the country.

Addressing the media at their party head offices in Najjanankumbi, Harold Kaaija, the party Deputy secretary general says government owes its citizens an explanation.

Last week, a soldier went bonkers at Makindye barracks, shot and killed 7 people all of which were women and children before being taken out too. According to UPDF, the soldier was not mentally stable.

However, Kaija calls this an excuse by the forces to hide the truth from the citizens. The party also claims the soldiers are frustrated for voting their party candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye in the February 18th election.

“The state seems not to give us the right kind of explanation as to why we are having such shootings. We also hear that more than 100 soldiers are in detention centers. As a party we all feel that this could be a crackdown on soldiers that are believed to have voted for Dr. Besigye in the last elections” says Kaija.

Kaija says FDC as a party condemns that and claims it is the soldiers’ right to vote and they want government to come out with a clear elaborate statement on the incidents in Makindye and Gulu.
