Kasangati magistrate’s court has adjourned to Friday July 1st a case in which Dr Kizza Besigye is accused of disobeying lawful orders.

This morning, former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye appeared before Grade One Magistrate Fred Egesa to answer to the case in which is accused of disobeying lawful orders as ordered by police officers.

It is alleged that on April 5, while in Mulago a Kampala suburb, Besigye was involved in a confrontation with police on his way to Najjanankumbi, the FDC Party headquarters after being intercepted at Mulago round about.

On the fateful day, Besigye disregarded police advice to use Yusuf Lule road on his way to Najjanankumbi opting for the route through Wandegeya to the city centre. But Police maintained that his preferred route would endanger business in the city centre.

Security was heightened at court as the opposition iron man appeared came to court. Security personnel from different security forces were visible with others dressed in some weird attires.

Today, a Police Officer attached to the evidence gathering unit and the first state witness Brain Mark Omito, presented a video footage before court showing Besigye's motorcade moving from Kalerwe to Mulago as proof that the crowd which followed him if allowed, could jeopardize business in Kampala.

However, court proceeding were brought to a standstill when the footage totaling 7 minutes and 42 seconds caused disagreement as Omito could not explain why it was edited from the original footage of 1 hour and 20minutes.

Ernest Kalibbala, the lead defence lawyer questioned the credibility of the footage asking why an edited version of the incident was presented instead of the entire journey from Kasangati to Mulago, where Besigye was stopped.

This prompted the state to seek an adjournment for 20 minutes to allow for consultations. After recess, the magistrate adjourned the case to July 1st when they will continue.

Dr Besigye, who is currently in Luzira prison on a different charge of treason, is appearing before Grade One Magistrate Egesa.
