Media personality Sheila Gashumba has made it clear that she is not comfortable referring to Malaika as her mother, despite her marriage to Sheila’s father.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Gashumba revealed that Malaika is younger than her, making it difficult for her to address her as “mum.”
She explained that while she respects Malaika, she believes respect is earned and does not feel the need to use that title.
“Malaika is younger than me, so how can I call someone younger than me ‘mum’? Let’s leave formalities aside because respect has to be earned,” she explained.
Sheila Gashumba added that she does not easily give the title of “mum” to anyone, noting that she even refers to her biological mother’s sisters as aunties rather than mothers.
In 2024, Frank Gashumba, Sheila’s father, married Malaika, and the couple welcomed a baby boy last year.
