Musician Yung Mulo has weighed in on the calls by some NUP-leaning supporters to boycott Vinka’s concert, insisting the campaign should not be interpreted as an official position of the party.
Vinka faced criticism from a section of NUP supporters after standing by her husband, Nelly Witta, who is associated with the NRM, during the January 2026 general elections.
Despite the backlash, Vinka went ahead with her Lugogo Cricket Oval concert, which ultimately attracted a strong turnout.
Speaking about the controversy, Yung Mulo said supporters were free to make their own decisions but argued that their individual actions should not be presented as an official party directive.
“It is someone's choice to say they won't support Vinka, but it's not the party's position because they didn't come out to decampaign her,” he said.
‘I Would Have Attended Her Show’
Yung Mulo further revealed that he personally had no problem attending Vinka's concert and would have been present if he had been in Kampala.
The musician said he has never considered Vinka to be actively involved in politics, making it difficult for him to understand why her music should become the target of political divisions.
“I know if I was in the city without much work, I was going to be at her show because I have never seen her stand for a political role,” he added.
His comments come after Vinka successfully staged the concert despite the controversy, with the boycott calls ultimately failing to stop fans from turning up for the singer.
