Police is holding 8 family members in the murder case of Sheikh Masuudi Mutumba, the imam of Masjid Noor Iwemba.
Fred Enanga the police spokesperson says the 8 were arrested along with a boda boda cyclist who transported the murderer.
The shooting allegedly stemmed from a land wrangle between the deceased and a one Koita Suleiman of the same village. Sheikh Mutumba had won a civil suit in Bugiri High court which was appealed in Jinja High Court and judgment was set for 20th February 2020.
Enanga told the media at the weekly press conference at Police headquarters in Naguru that prior to the killing, the perpetrators held a meeting in their village to plan the gruesome murder.
On the fateful night, the boda boda rider together with two others who included one gunman, went to the deceased’s home and the lone gunman who was known to him called the sheikh out and shot him in the head, killing him instantly and they drove off.
“We have gotten statements of those who were in the meeting to hatch the murder and that of the boda boda man” Enanga said.
