The police in Amuru district have arrested Irene Oyella, 25, a businesswoman in Elegu Town Council over the death of her two biological children.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday evening by the police for negligence leading to the death of her children identified as Robert Kidega, 3 years old, and his eight-month-old sister Claire Adoch.
It is alleged that Oyella went out to buy sugar on Tuesday night leaving behind her two children sleeping in their grass-thatched hut.
However, upon returning home she found that the house was burning, she made an alarm but it was too late to rescue the minors since they had already burnt to death.
According to David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Oyella has been arrested and is being held at Elegu Police Station for causing the death of the two children due to negligence.
He added that preliminary findings by police indicate that the cause of the fire was a burning candle that was left unattended.
