Police in Katwe have launched investigations into circumstances under which a senior six student committed suicide by hanging.
The deceased, Bright Namusoke, 20, was a student at Kitebi Senior Secondary School and a resident of Ngobe Zone, Bunamwaya Division in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality in Wakiso District.
Namusoke was discovered by relatives hanging on a rope in one of the rooms at her residence at 4:00 PM on Wednesday.
According to one of the deceased's relatives, Namusoke returned from school annoyed and informed them that a teacher had humiliated and demeaned her in front of her peers. She was however disregarded by her relatives who didn't take her frustration seriously.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says police were informed of the incident and detectives have since recorded statements from the relatives as investigations commence.
Owoyesigyire however says preliminary findings indicate that the deceased has a history of mental illness, that is suspected to have triggered the suicide. He adds that relatives informed police that the deceased was recently having more recurrent episodes of mental disorder.
The deceased's body was conveyed to the City Mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem.
On May 10, 2022, a senior one student at Aputi Secondary school committed suicide following a misunderstanding with her father over grazing animals.
On June 07, a senior four student of Wanyange Girl's Senior Secondary School in Kakira town council, Jinja District committed suicide. Police said Josephine Namuli committed suicide in her dormitory on Tuesday at around 7 am.

On June 30, Nasasira Bibiana, a student at Kabale University was found hanging on a tree behind her sister’s house in Rweza Cell, Rukiga District.
