Uganda will on Friday this week, 22nd April to 23rd April 2016 host the 13th integration projects summit at Speke resort Munyonyo Kampala.

The forthcoming meetings will review the status of implementation of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) since the last Summit held in December 2015 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Northern Corridor is a transport corridor that links the EAC landlocked countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan with the Port of Mombasa, Kenya.

The corridor also serves Northern Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia.

Ambassador James Mugume, permanent secretary in Foreign Affairs Ministry told the press this morning that the summit will be preceded by a meeting of ministers on Friday 22nd April, while they are currently continuing with a meeting of senior officials in preparation for both the ministerial meeting and the summit.

“The countries that have been invited are, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and South Sudan, who are the core members of the Northern Corridor integration projects. We have other members who have been invited, Tanzania and Burundi, who have been observers, DRC and Ethiopia who have expressed great interest to participate, the East African Community (EAC), the Northern Corridor transport Authority, and members of the private sector from both Uganda and the region and the member states of the Northern corridor,” Ambassador Mugume said.

Meanwhile, the summit will not discuss issues related to the controversial Migingi Island.

Uganda’s Ambassador/Coordinator to the Northern Corridor Integration Projects at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uganda, Emmanuel Hatega explains that a commission was put in place to deal with the Island’s issues since they only affect Uganda and Kenya.

He however says Presidents Museveni and Kenyatta will meet on Friday to discuss matters of the oil pipeline.
