Senior NBS TV news anchor and pastor Samson Kasumba has responded to claims that his television presentation style was borrowed from the late broadcasting icon Bbale Francis.
The debate erupted after a social media user alleged that Kasumba had built his reputation by imitating the legendary UBC news anchor, who was widely admired for his commanding presence and exceptional diction before his death in 2015.
'I Was Influenced by Many Broadcasters'
Kasumba dismissed the allegation, arguing that Uganda had several accomplished television personalities long before Bbale Francis rose to prominence.
He explained that his journalism career has been shaped by a variety of local and international broadcasters rather than one individual.
To support his point, Kasumba cited veteran Ugandan sports presenter Andrew Patrick Luwandaga, as well as internationally renowned broadcasters Larry King and Sir Trevor McDonald, as some of the professionals whose work has inspired him over the years.
Defending His Legacy
The veteran journalist noted that he has been watching television since 1978 and believes Uganda's broadcasting industry has produced many exceptional presenters who have influenced generations of journalists.
