Mbale Police are investigating circumstances under which unknown assailants killed a security guard and took off with his rifle. The incident happened last night -Sunday 15th January 2023, at about 8 pm.

It's alleged that Ivan Wamoto a security guard working for Jag Security was on duty at choice and choice traders along Kumi road in Mbale City when three men approached him from the back and cut his head with a panga before taking off with the gun.

The victim was rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital where he was pronounced dead a few moments later.

Rogers Taitika the Elgon region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident saying no arrests have yet been made however police continue to search for the culprits.

Last year, the Directorate of Crime Intelligence revealed that thugs were targeting private security guards for their firearms. Consequently, Police banned lone deployments of security guards at both private and public premises, and lone movements while walking on foot or riding to and from their guard points.

On November 28, 2022, a private security guard was hacked to death by unknown assailants and his gun taken in Magere cell in Kasangati.

The security guard belonging to GKO security company was attacked while heading to work by unidentified assailants at about 7:30 PM. In December 2022, an unknown assailant attacked the Advance Micro Smart Microfinance Office located in Wobulenzi Town Council at around midday and shot dead a guard identified as Leon Odong, 20, attached to SGA Security Group.
