Police in Namisindwa district have arrested a 28-year-old man for murdering his biological father over a contested piece of land.

The deceased has been identified as Masayi Wilson, 72, a resident of Bumakuma vill Buwatuwa Sub-county, Namisindwa district.

Masayi was murdered in cold blood by his own son identified as Maguma Rogers alias Wetaya, a resident of the same area. 

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect used a sharp machete to chop his father into pieces after a heated argument over the said piece of land.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson says Maguma attacked his father at home after supper on Sunday night, before his biological mother and sister before fleeing into hiding.

Taitika says the suspect threatened to kill his mother if she reported the matter to the police or hesitated to let him out of the house. He says police found the body lying in a pool of blood, with multiple cuts at the neck and on the head.

According to Taitika, the suspect is a serial offender who had just escaped from prison and has been on a wanted list.

The body of the deceased was delivered to the City Mortuary Mbale.
