Lord councilor at KCCA representing Kyambogo institutions, Byaruhanga Bruhan Mugisha has accused newly elected members of parliament for conspiring with the old ones to exempt themselves from paying the mandatory taxes from their emoluments.

Addressing the press at KCCA offices this morning, Bruhan said “It is conspicuously clear that None of the elected new MPs has come out to speak against this evil apart from them spending a lot of time debating the Speaker and deputy speaker positions which we all know they ought to be occupied anyway regardless of who occupies them.”

He added; “I would like to caution the president and NRM party chairman that the bill that was passed recently by parliament and is thus awaiting his ascension is a dangerous time bomb to this country.”

Councilor Bruhan called upon the public service, Gender, Labour and social development, finance, planning and economic development and local government ministries to pick keen interest in the matter and offer expert advice to the president before a catastrophe befalls Uganda.

The bill that has already been passed by parliament now awaits the president’s signature to become a law. It is against taxation of the MPs’ allowances.
