Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party president Rtd. Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu says he will not be deterred from doing what is right in the name of removing a dictatorship regime and impressing some undeserving fellows.

Muntu was last night was reacting to questions from some Ugandans who are concerned about his simplicity in his ways of leading Uganda’s strongest opposition party.

He also told the nation that he is not against the idea of holding a dialogue with the ruling NRM, arguing that the process started in 2011. According to Muntu, as long as there is an agreed agenda, a review of the electoral process and a guarantor, his party, is ready to dialogue.

About the persistent disagreements in the party, Muntu says members should accept decisions taken by their leaders on behalf of the party. The general explained that when he lost Primaries to Besigye who fronted defiance campaign, the general accepted defeat and joined the rest of the party members to campaign for Besigye.

“There was a contestation in the party, Besigye defiance, and I campaigned for party organization. The delegates supported defiance, so I jumped in because I believe in democracy. The values we want to see must be practiced in our parties. You can’t do things one way in the party and think you will do them differently in power.”

“We believe that we won, we also know we were cheated and manipulated, but we believe that the environment is forced on us. We need to re-organize ourselves and change this.”

The bush war general says he does not regret participating in the 1980 revolution.

“I can’t regret. You cannot change history. We have advanced in some things we fought for. I was always conscious even at a time when we were losing truck in NRM. I engaged President Museveni until we couldn’t agree. We didn’t leave Museveni, he left us. May be that was his motive when he went to the bush. I am still fighting for what took me to the bush then,” said Gen. Muntu.
