The opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party has blamed government for playing transactional politics, leading to the loss of their candidate for Speakership, Hon Ssemujju Nganda.
Nganda came last in the race that attracted three candidates, Jacob Oulanya the eventual winner and Rebecca Kadaga, who came second in the race.
Ssemujju garnered only 15 votes despite the party having 32 members of Parliament in the house.
“We did our best, we turned up, we competed against corruption and transactional politics. Our job in Parliament is to represent voices for the voiceless against a well-oiled dictatorship. While we told many to choose the best, we knew that we’re not in charge of the secret ballot” The party wrote on their social media handles.
Adding that; “We led where others duck from political leadership. We shall never be afraid to lose a vote where integrity and honesty in politics is in the ballot. While the loss is not what we wanted, ssemujju was the best, and he will continue with the job he does best with his head held up.”
Omoro County Member of Parliament, Hon. Jacob Oulanya was announced winner of the Speaker of the 11th Parliament race after garnering 310 votes against his arch rival Kadaga’s 197.
Kadaga decided to stand as an independent after the Central Executive Committee of the NRM Party decided to go with her arch rival Oulanya, as the Party candidate.
