Five arrested for electricity vandalism in Kampala

Police have arrested five suspects during an intelligence-led operation in three different areas and recovered over 40 tonnes of angle lines used to construct high-voltage power lines.

Police have arrested five suspects during an intelligence-led operation in three different areas and recovered over 40 tonnes of angle lines used to construct high-voltage power lines.

The suspects were arrested in the areas of Social centre scrap yard in Mengo parish, Kampala central division Kampala district, Nakitende scrap yard at Budonian village in Mengo parish Kampala central division Kampala district and Kisenyi scrap dealers opposite Ham building central zone Kisenyi I parish, Kampala central division Kampala district.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango PRO KMP, the operation targeted areas where suspected electrical materials are stored and sold in areas of Kisenyi.

This comes after reports of constant vandalism of Umeme electrical materials in different parts of the country which are bought and sold amongst them in areas of Kisenyi and surrounding areas.

Other items that were recovered include Rails of the railway line, Angle bars for the electricity powerline and solar poles suspected to be of KCCA.

Police arrested 13 suspects during the operation.

The key suspects are; Ssebagala Robert, Maganda Arafat and Kyomugisha Rachael. The others are Naluyima Aisha and Nabakooza Allen.
All suspects are detained at Old Kampala Police Station.
