Three people have been severely injured after a speeding car rammed into a motorcycle in Masaka City.

According to eyewitnesses, the car that was reportedly carrying children to school attempted to overtake four other cars in its lane but instead rammed into a Boda Boda with three people on board, injuring them badly.

The injured are currently admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital as investigations continue.

Richard Komakech, the Greater Masaka Regional Traffic Commander confirms the incident and says three people including the motorcycle rider and two other women were injured in the process.

Komakech explains that the motorcycle rider was coming from the opposite direction when he was hit by the oncoming speeding car.

He says the driver of the car has since fled into hiding but investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident. He however blames the driver of the car for rushing hence the accident.

A recent report by the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety reveals that between February 5 to 12, 2023, 92 people perished in road accidents while over 300 were badly injured.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic spokesperson says in the same period, 408 road crashes were reported, of these 87 were fatal, 201 were serious, and 114 were minor.

She further states that between January 29 to February 04, 60 people died and 271 were injured in road accidents.
