Five days after the NRM parliamentary primaries were held across the country, the State Minister of Veteran Affairs Christopher Kibanzanga has been declared winner in Bughendera County.

This declaration ends days of speculation and tension that led to suspension of the release of the results on Saturday by the district security team for fear of violence.

According to the final results announced by Robert Kifunga Aguma the District NRM Registrar on Tuesday night, Kibanzanga won with 21,125 votes beating his closest rival Acrobat Kiiza Moses who polled 20,272 and Moses Mugisa with 321 votes.

The tallying was conducted by both the district NRM party officials and a team from the NRM national electoral commission, while candidates’ supporters and journalists were blocked from accessing the tally centre.

Meanwhile, Josephine Babungi also retained the party flag after defeating former Woman MP Harriet Ntabazi, while Richard Gafabusa, the incumbent MP Bwamba County MP seat defeated former minister Dr Batalingaya Cos Kamanda, Methodius Balyesiima and Baguma Iddi to maintain the seat.

Apeaking after final declaration of the result, aspirant Acrobat said he had a lot of trust in both the district and national EC teams but that he was assured of a win based on the declaration forms he had received from his agents.

He has disputed the results saying that he will state his next course of action.
