Dr. Stephen Kasiima director traffic and road safety at Uganda police has revealed that over 561 traffic offenders have been arrested in operation Fika Salama that is meant to reduce accidents on Masaka highway.

Operation Fika salama was introduced by the police traffic department in partnership with UNRA and the ministry of works to crack down on errant drivers.

According to Dr. Kasiima, they are targeting drivers without permits, driving without licenses, and wrong overtaking on climbing lanes as well as over speeding among others.

He explains that most Ugandans want to drive fast and end up defying traffic guidelines. He believes the problem is that most Ugandans are just Defiant.

Kasiima however warns that the operation is still ongoing and they will arrest as many errant drivers as there is. “We have acquired motorcycles to facilitate us during #FikaSalaama. As long as we have resources, we shall continue" Road safety is a shared responsibility, the only component missing is the road users” he said.
