Police in Kanungu are holding three suspects for beating to a pulp, three Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF Soldiers in a bar fight.

The suspects are Eliah Akyoreka, Sam Nuwamanya and Elias Mugarura all residents of Kiruruma village, Nyakatunguru parish, Kihihi sub county in Kanungu.  

The three battered soldiers are attached to the UPDF 305 brigade in Mburameizi, Kihihi sub-county.

Eyewitnesses allege that the soldiers had gone to the same bar as the suspects and the group got into a misunderstanding while discussing matters about football.

During the heat of the argument, a fight ensued and the soldiers were overpowered and beaten. The suspects were reportedly armed with machetes and clubs that were used to assault the soldiers on the head and other body parts.

Gad Rugaju Ahimbisibwe, Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner says that one of the soldiers is in the intensive care unit in one of the health facilities in Kampala, while the other is admitted at Mbarara referral hospital and another at one of the health facilities in Kanungu.

Rugaaju has declined to reveal the names of the injured UPDF soldiers but says that the district security committee has started investigations into the incident.
