
Police engaged in running battles with Makerere University students striking over a policy that requires tuition fees are cleared within the first six weeks of a semester. On Monday, the students went on strike for the same reason.
The interim government led by Chark Benson, negotiated the extension of the policy deadline by two weeks. However students are bitter, a petition has been making rounds asking students to sign against the policy.
There was heavy deployment of police at the campus and tear gas was fired out.
