Police in Kampala are still investigating circumstances under which a man driving a Subaru Reg. Number UAJ704K rammed into the residence of Erias Lukwago.

The incident happened on Sunday night at the home of the Lord mayor in Rubaga division.

It is alleged that the driver of Subaru was moving at a breakneck speed and crushed into the gate hitting a pillar at the house which sent all occupants into a panic.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire told journalists on Monday that the suspect identified as Farid Kiwewa remains in police custody at the old Kampala post while a passenger of the same car is admitted at Mulago Hospital after sustaining injuries.

He says police have since towed the vehicle to police headquarters in Naguru Kampala for inspection at the IOU before they proceed with charges.

The IOU report will determine whether Kiwewa intentionally rammed into the car or if it was an accident as he claims.

Owoyesigyire says that preliminary findings show that the car was not in a good shape at the time of the accident.

On his part, Kiwewa alleges that he was driving at a terrible speed on a narrow road when he failed to control the car while trying to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle. He says in an effort to control further damage, he rammed into the gate and proceeded to accidentally crush the Lord mayor's pillar.

However, the Lord mayor says he suspects foul play in the whole incident.

The boy came at a terrific speed and rammed into this pillar. The whole house was shaken and everyone in disarm. He was either high on something or had other intentions but considering the impact, I suspect something sinister. — Lukwago said on Sunday

Owoyesigyire says police will soon determine whether the incident was is a traffic problem or a criminal matter.
